Haworth Moor £375

watercolour, sumi ink and peat. 77cm x 57cm.
Drawn on location on Haworth Moor, Yorkshire above Top Withins, the supposed setting for Emily Bronte's novel 'Wuthering Heights'. If the Bronte sisters walked up to Top Withins then they would almost certainly have ventured onto to moorland top behind it because of the drama of the view and the fresh wildness of the heather peat land. The pile of grit stones are glacial eractic showing strong ridge markings from glacier movement. They are arranged almost like a neolithic burial chamber and contrast beautifully with the surrounding dark brown heather. At the end of the last ice age they would have stood several metres higher than now but have been buried under peat at the rate of approximately 1m per 1000 years. At this rate they will be submerged in 2000 years from now.0

Sumi ink, watercolour, pastel and peat.. 98cm x 80cm.
Oak framed with heavy mount. Drawn on location on grouse moors above Blanchland in Northumberland in the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. I used peat from under my feet to draw the peat bog and scapped and scrtched into it with a knife to draw the grasses and shooting butt.0

Charcoal. 0cm x 0cm.
Unframed. Drawn at one of the most beautiful cliff side cottages in Abersoch which was sympathetically designed in the 20's to fit in with the surrounding landscape. This is in stark contrast with many of the monstrous hulks that have been built recently on this once delightful headland. Money and ego talk more loudly in this day and age than balance and beauty. I can see Wordsworth turning in his grave.0
Radcliffe Camera Aug 1990 NFS
(1990)
graphite pencil. 0cm x 0cm.
Drawn on the streets of Oxford on a hitch hiking tour of SW England at the end of my 2nd year at art college in Newcastle upon Tyne. I drew peoplke on the street as well as buildings. The Radcliffe Camera has a wonderful intimacy of scale and position but by contrast a splendid grandeur I associates with St Peters in Rome.
The drawing was gifted to a trusty young soul who put me up for the night and she still has it on her wall at home 20 years later. Now that's what I call an art lover, Melanie!0
